JULIAN’S LEMONADE

All Things Lemon

Welcome to Julian’s Lemonade. I never sleep… almost.

In the summer of 2010 I was 7 years old. I came to my parents and said, “Mom and Dad, I need to talk to you.” I said to my parents, “I want to be an entrepreneur.” They asked me what I wanted to do and I explained that I wanted to set up a lemonade stand in front of my school.

My parents helped me start my lemonade business. We put together the list of supplies I needed to make my signs and what ingredients I would need to make the lemonade. After purchasing our supplies my mom helped me put together a budget. We added up all of our receipts and then we figured out how much we should charge for the lemonade.

My aunt Leatha and my cousin Kemia helped me decorate and color in my signs. My mom and I making the lemonade. And Dad, he was responsible for setting up the table, chairs and tent.

On August 10, 2010 I made my first sale and Julian’s Lemonade was born.

I was so excited, and a little nervous. I welcomed each guest and said “Welcome to Julian’s Lemonade. How may I help you?”

At the end of that day (6pm to 8pm) I sold 32 cups of lemonade. After I counted the money my parents started my second lesson in managing money. They told me that 1/3 had to be put in the bank, 1/3 had to be set aside to reinvest in more supplies and 1/3 I could keep. But, from the money I earned, I still had to pay my tithes at church on Sunday. They said that giving back to God was the most important lesson of all.

Since that first time selling lemonade by the cup, I’ve been able to grow my little business.

Now I have a Federal Identification Number and insurance. We provide lemonade for birthday parties, company events, and fundraisers.

I’m so excited about my lemonade business. I hope that it will continue to grow. Maybe, one day Julian’s Lemonade will be sold in grocery stores all over the country.
